Get a More Youthful Look with the Pearl Procedure in Mt. Vernon, IL
The Pearl procedure combines the gentleness and safety of non-invasive procedures with the impact of laser skin resurfacing. Mt. Vernon’s Skin Care Center of Southern Illinois uses Pearl to treat aging and sun-damaged skin, reducing wrinkles, uneven texture and solar damage with fewer treatments and with less overall recovery time than other technologies to provide a healthy, pearl-like glow. Patients with light to medium skin tones, and mild to moderate sun damage, are the ideal candidates.

How Does Laser Skin Resurfacing with Pearl Work?
During the procedure, the top layer of skin is treated with pulses of light in a pre-selected pattern. The laser simultaneously sends heat to the deeper layers of skin to provide longer-term benefits. A natural, protective dressing of your own skin forms on the treated area to minimize social downtime during the restorative process. On day three or four after your laser skin resurfacing session, this natural dressing will peel or slough off— revealing new, healthy, vibrant skin underneath.

How Does a Laser Skin Resurfacing Session Feel?
Patients often report that the Pearl treatment feels like a series of brief pinches. On a scale of 1 to 10, with 10 representing pain, most patients report their laser skin resurfacing session feeling like a 2 or 3.

How Many Laser Skin Resurfacing Sessions Will I Have?
Some patients may require two treatments spaced approximately one month apart to achieve their desired results. Other patients may need only one treatment.

How Soon Do Laser Skin Resurfacing Results Appear?
Results are noticeable the third or fourth day after a Pearl session, when the superficial tissue has peeled off, exposing the fresh, younger-looking skin underneath.

What Sort of Downtime is Necessar After Laser Skin Resurfacing?
Downtime is the time spent recovering from a procedure. With “social” downtime—all that is required after Pearl laser skin resurfacing—you can continue your normal daily activities while your skin heals. However, you may not want to attend important social events, since your face will appear pink or red for three to four days after your session.

Are There Activity Restrictions After Laser Skin Resurfacing? How Soon Can Makeup Be Applied?
After a Pearl treatment, the skin will look and feel sunburned. You will apply ointment on the skin for three to four days. Since you cannot wear sunscreen during this time, you will need to wear protective clothing and limit sun exposure for a few days after the treatment. Also, avoid wearing makeup for three to four days following your session.

Are Lasers Used for Other Treatments?
The Skin Care Center of Southern Illinois team uses light energy for much more than laser skin resurfacing. Other available cosmetic dermatology services include Laser Genesis to treat wrinkles and redness, laser hair removal, and laser skin tightening. The team also uses intense pulsed light (IPL) to treat redness, spots, and sun damage.
